Gayle "Coach G" Portis started coaching approximately four years ago when she assembled a team of young girls in the 4th and 5th grade divisions. She had a love for kids so much that she was known as a coach who never cut a child. Her goal was to help them all, no matter what the number. Coach G went on to join Coach Pittman as an Assistant Coach with the Arkansas Maverick organization in 2001, and played a pivotal role in helping an Arkansas Mavericks 17 and Under team to a 5th place finish at the NIC Nationals held in 2001 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was also an assistant to Coach Pittman when he coached the Arkansas Mavericks 11 and Under team In 2003. Together, they developed a team that won several state championships and competed well in the AAU and BCI State tournaments. Their 11 and Under team competed nationally in the 2003 BCI tournament held in Lubbock, Texas and finished 3rd. Coach G will be the Administrative Head in 2004 for the Arkansas Lady Sparks "1991 Team."
